J. Barton Payne (1922-1979), a conservative evangelical theologian and apologist, taught at Wheaton College and Covenant Theological Seminary. He was on the committee of translators for the New American Standard Bible and the New International Version. Dr. Payne was a widely respected Old Testament scholar and covenant theologian*.
