Bible Study Software
Bible Study Software:
Commercial Programs
The disadvantage of the best commercial programs is the cost
to add some of the most up-to-date resources.
- Wordsearch 9:
this software program has many great features and is the best
commercial product for the average theologue! A Wordsearch 5
program CD came with earlier editions of the ESV -- that is how
I was introduced to this product. The best choice for Bible
study!!
- BibleWorks:
BibleWorks 9 is the premier original languages Bible software
program for Biblical exegesis and research. Wordsearch is now
offering some of their material to BibleWorks users!
Free Programs
The disadvantage of 'freebies' is that most books are in the
public domain and therefore somewhat dated. A few do offer some
current works at a reasonable cost.
- Bible Explorer 4:
A scaled down version of Wordsearch program. A free version for
download is at www.bible-explorer.com. The free version comes
with several free books and when you register you can unlock
several more freebies! This program is worth a try. The downside
is all of the bookd are not synced, and like Wordsearch adding
additional books can be costly.
- Free Bible
Software: The Ephesians 4 Group gives away a free
copy of Quickverse, a popular and powerful program. It comes
with several books (including Bible Versions and reference
books). Add-on books are expensive.
- E-Sword: A free
software program with a basic set of Bible Study Tools
(including a STEP Reader) and many free add-ins to download. A
few excellent add-ins can be purchased at a reasonable price.
You can download the program www.e-sword.net and then
download resources from the main menu. Before beginning you can learn the
program features from the tutorial at: www.e-sword.net/training.html
I have used many programs in the past, the first one was written on
DOS and not very user-friendly. Several years ago I switched to
Wordsearch because it has many features and add-ons that I like. One
of the best features is the 'talking' Greek/Hebrew Lexicon. A click
of the mouse and the program gives the correct pronunciation of the
Greek or Hebrew word selected!
A good, but slightly dated, Bible software review is available here
